Data licence

What you may do with the BMP data and images from the site, and how to give credit.

Last updated

Informational translation of version 1.1 of the Polish document (effective from 20 November 2026). The Polish version is binding.

1. What the licence covers

  1. The Substraty.pl editorial compilation — solely the own, protected contribution of Samael Sp. z o.o.: the selection and arrangement of BMP records, descriptions of substrates and samples in Polish (and their translations on feedstockdata.com), unit conversions, weights, weighted means, statistics, model curves, process data (compositions, calculator rules) and the files available for download in the Open data section of substraty.pl (substraty.json, bmp-rekordy.csv, atlas.json, bmp/<id>.csv) — is made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). The licence does not cover mere facts and numerical values or elements to which we hold no exclusive rights (point 3).
  2. The licence covers the copyright in the compilation and the database producer’s right (Polish Act of 27 July 2001 on the protection of databases) to the extent they belong to Samael Sp. z o.o. (section 4 of the CC BY 4.0 licence).
  3. You may copy, distribute, adapt and use the compilation, including for commercial purposes, provided you give credit (point 2).

2. How to give credit

To meet the attribution condition of CC BY 4.0, give in a reasonable manner: the author/source “Substraty.pl” (Samael Sp. z o.o.), the name of and a link to the CC BY 4.0 licence, a link to the material (the substrate page or substraty.pl/dane/) and an indication of any changes you made. We also recommend giving the date of download. For language versions of the compilation (feedstockdata.com) give “Substraty.pl / feedstockdata.com”. Example:

Source: Substraty.pl, compilation of biochemical methane potential (BMP), as of 30 October 2026, licence CC BY 4.0, https://substraty.pl/dane/ (changes: selection of substrates).

Please do not suggest that Substraty.pl endorses your work. The download date and the formula above are recommended; CC BY 4.0 requires attribution in a reasonable manner, not specific wording.

3. What the licence does not cover

  1. Source data. The numerical values come from the publications listed in the bibliography and from the databases described on the data page. The licence of the compilation does not change the rights to those sources or the terms of the source databases (given for each database). In academic work please cite the original publication of each record (the source_id column in the CSV) and, where relevant, the database.
  2. Compendium articles and FAQ — protected by copyright; quotation with attribution is permitted (Article 29 of the Polish Copyright Act). They are not covered by CC BY 4.0.
  3. Photographs under Creative Commons licences (including from Wikimedia Commons) — under their authors’ licences (e.g. CC BY, CC BY-SA, public domain), stated in the caption and on the photo credits page. We use and mark each photograph in accordance with the specific licence and version stated for the file. Photographs have been cropped to a 16:9 ratio and saved at smaller resolutions (WebP); where our modification creates an adapted work within the meaning of a CC BY-SA licence, we make that adaptation available under that licence. When you use a photograph, apply the author’s licence and give the author, licence and source.
  4. AI-generated illustrations (caption “Illustration generated by AI: Substraty.pl ([tool])”) — images generated with an artificial-intelligence tool. To the extent that Samael Sp. z o.o. holds rights allowing it to grant a licence, we grant a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence for non-commercial reproduction and public communication of illustrations so marked, without the right to sublicense, giving the source “Substraty.pl”; in other cases please write to the contact address. Please do not use them as documentation of real installations or events.
  5. Company materials (logos, photographs, documents in the directory and in sponsored articles) — belong to the companies; they are not covered by the licence and any further use requires the separate consent of the entitled entity.
  6. Trademarks, the logo and the name Substraty.pl.
  7. Language versions. Translations of content and compilations into English and German (feedstockdata.com) are prepared with AI assistance and checked by the editorial team; they are covered by the licence to the same extent as the Polish version. The Polish version is binding; in the event of discrepancies it decides the meaning of the data.

4. No warranty

The compilation is provided “as is” (section 5 of the CC BY 4.0 licence). The data describe laboratory test results from publications and are not a guarantee of yield in a plant. Please report errors to contact@feedstockdata.com — rules on corrections are in the editorial principles on substraty.pl.

5. Versions

Each update of the site may change the compilation (new records, corrections). The licence applies to every version you downloaded; previous values are available on request from the version history.
