Polski Zielony Fundusz (PZF), created by the Industrial Development Agency (ARP) and ARP TFI, will invest in building nine agricultural biomethane plants. The project was announced on 15 January 2026. The partner is Green Gas Energy, a developer that designs, builds and operates such installations. The value of the undertaking is almost PLN 400 million, of which PZF's equity commitment is PLN 59 million.

Structure of the project

Each of the nine installations has a capacity of 0.99 MW, giving about 8.9 MW in total (this is a calculation based on the values given; the material does not give a total). ARP TFI and Green Gas Energy will form a holding company, whose subsidiaries will be responsible for delivering the individual biomethane plants. After construction is completed, the installations are to be sold in a separate transaction, with no date given. The locations have not been disclosed, nor the start and completion dates of construction.

The project joined PZF's portfolio at the time of a change of president at ARP TFI. The fund is part of the Industrial Development Agency's "Czysty Przemysł" strategy for 2023–2025 with an outlook to 2030. The material recalled that only one biomethane plant operates in Poland, whereas in other European countries there are more than a thousand, and that domestic feedstocks could yield 5–6 billion m³ of biomethane per year, about a quarter of current natural gas consumption.

Why 0.99 MW

The choice of a capacity just below 1 MW is not accidental. Under Polish law, installations of up to 1 MW (electrical capacity) can benefit from the FIP premium for biomethane, whereas above this threshold an auction system with contracts for difference was envisaged, which in January 2026 was still awaiting adoption after the presidential veto. "Just below the threshold" models are common in support systems because they simplify procedures, but they can limit economies of scale: smaller biomethane plants have higher unit investment and operating costs.

Significance for the industry in Poland

A portfolio of nine repeatable installations is a "factory" approach: a uniform design, joint equipment orders and servicing. Similar models have so far been used by foreign companies in biogas. For farmers it is a chance of a steady offtaker for slurry and manure and a supplier of digestate, and for technology suppliers – a predictable order portfolio. For public institutions – an example of using state capital to stimulate a market that banks regard as risky; BGK indicated in January 2026 that biogas and biomethane are among the least bankable investments in energy.

What to watch

Information on the locations, the schedule and the planned buyer after construction has not been given, so risk assessment is limited. The key points will be: connections to the gas grid, environmental decisions and the availability of substrates in the vicinity.
