Digestate is the residue after methane fermentation. It contains plant nutrients and organic matter, so it can go onto fields as a fertiliser or soil improver.

Communication COM(2020) 381 announces a reduction of nutrient losses by at least half and a 20% cut in fertiliser use by 2030. This matters for digestate and manure management.
The Council of Ministers Regulation of 12 February 2020 (Journal of Laws (Dz.U.) item 243) adopted a programme for reducing water pollution by nitrates. The rules covered the whole country, not only particularly vulnerable areas.
