The tender for energy from biomass with a deadline of 1 April 2026 ended undersubscribed: 494 bids for 637 MW were submitted, while the volume was 727 MW. Awards were made to 388 bids for 491 MW, and the weighted average winning price was 18.46 ct/kWh. In parallel a biomethane tender was held, in which awards were made for the first time since October 2022.

Biomass: fewer bids than places

The Bundesnetzagentur published the results on 9 June 2026 (Solarserver report of 10 June) and excluded 29 bids. Because the bids were below the volume, the volume was reduced under the statutory rules: awards were made only up to 80% of the capacity of bids admitted to the tender, that is 491 MW. Winning prices ranged between 12.05 and 19.38 ct/kWh, and the volume-weighted average was 18.46 ct/kWh.

Item Value
Tender volume 727 MW
Bids 494 (637 MW)
Awards 388 (491 MW)
Winning prices 12.05–19.38 ct/kWh
Weighted average 18.46 ct/kWh

The largest award volumes: Bavaria (123 MW, 111 awards), Lower Saxony (105 MW, 84), North Rhine-Westphalia (55 MW, 43) and Schleswig-Holstein (47 MW, 31). The industry association LEE Niedersachsen/Bremen regarded the shortage of bids as a signal that the policy framework needs improving and greater stability. Prices remained stable at a level close to 18 ct/kWh, so the problem is not prices being pushed down, but a smaller number of interested parties.

Biomethane: first awards since 2022

In the biomethane tender 6 bids for 38 MW were submitted against a volume of 61 MW. All bids won, and prices ranged from 22.99 to 23.12 ct/kWh, 23.08 ct/kWh on average — just below the cap. The cap for the 2026 tenders was raised by 10%, to 23.13 ct/kWh. These are the first biomethane awards since October 2022 and the first biomethane tender under the rules of the biomass package. Meanwhile, in the biomethane tender of April 2025 no bids were received, as we write in the article Germany: tender of 1 April 2025.

What next

The next deadlines are 1 September 2026 for biomethane and 1 October 2026 for biomass. A broader context for the first tenders of 2026 can be found in the article Germany announces tenders for over 1 GW for biomass and biomethane.

At an exchange rate of approx. PLN 4.25 per euro (indicative, June 2026) the average of 18.46 ct/kWh corresponds to approx. PLN 785/MWh, and 23.08 ct/kWh for biomethane to approx. PLN 981/MWh.
