Biogas is produced in methane fermentation, i.e. the anaerobic decomposition of organic matter by microorganisms. It is a mixture of mainly methane and carbon dioxide, and its energy value depends on the methane share.

On 22 June 2023 the Senate adopted the act on facilitations for agricultural biogas plants with 28 amendments, mainly clarifying and editorial ones. The act now returns to the Sejm.
On 26 May 2023 the Sejm passed the act on facilitating the preparation and implementation of investments in agricultural biogas plants. 449 MPs voted in favour. The act goes to the Senate.
